Indianola baseball held Norwalk to just three hits Monday evening, however the Warriors took advantage of several Indians mistakes to win the game 4-1 as heard live on 94.3 KNIA.
The Warriors got ahead in the second inning, scoring three runs off of just one hit, earning two walks, a dropped third strike, an error, and a passed ball all with two outs in the innings to get a lead they would not relinquish. Indianola scored in the third after a leadoff single from Carter Erickson and an RBI hit from Bennett Brueck, but Norwalk got the run back in the bottom half of the inning from a Dylan Christensen RBI single.
Norwalk’s Vinnie Mauro pitched a gem to earn the win on the mound, striking out six over six innings of work, while Mark Pepper pitched four innings of relief for the Indians giving up only one run and two hits. Norwalk Head Coach Chad Wiedmann tells KNIA Sports Mauro finding his groove tends to mean his team is finding success.
“I think he had some very quick innings early on and be able to get into his rhythm, and his rhythm is go-go-go. So he’s not going to wait around once he gets the ball in his hand, he wants to throw it again. So that keeps our defense in a rhythm and allows them to play with confidence.”
Norwalk improves to 14-1 on the season and 8-1 in Little Hawkeye Conference play, and faces off with Winterset tonight. Indianola drops to 12-5 and 5-4, and will host Pella for a doubleheader tomorrow evening.
