PCM’s summer teams took on Nevada for the second time this season and walked away with another pair of wins. On the baseball diamond, PCM routed the Cubs 19-4 and the Mustangs  softball team edged out an exciting 6-4 victory.

Last week was rough for the Mustangs, but Head Coach Jeff Lindsay knew it would just take a couple bounces to turn things around. The Mustangs offense found its groove in the blowout as they racked up 15 hits on their way to scoring 19 runs. Sage Burns led the way with three hits and five runs batted in. Andrew Mitchell collected his second win of the season on the mound after he struck out five and walked just one batter in the five innings of play. PCM baseball moved to 5-5 overall on the year and to 5-1 in conference play which placed them just a half game out of first place in the Heart of Iowa Conference standings.

PCM softball found themselves trailing going into the top of the 7th inning 4-2. Down to their final out, the Mustangs loaded the bases for Sidney Shaver, who came through in the clutch moment by crushing a go-ahead grand slam. Paige Steenhoek and the defense shut things down in the bottom of the seventh to pull out the narrow victory. The win kept PCM tied for the top spot in Heart of Iowa conference standings and gave them a 9-8 overall record.

The PCM softball team hits the road tonight to take on Colfax-Mingo at 7 p.m. The PCM baseball team has the night off before welcoming Saydel to town on Wednesday.
