After clashing with each other Monday, the Tulip City baseball teams will join their softball counterparts on the road to Warren County this evening to finish the first rotation of the Little Hawkeye Conference summer season with varsity doubleheaders.
The Eagles are riding a four-game winning streak heading to Norwalk, a team on the cusp of the 4A rankings and the current leaders in the league. Head Coach Braden Shull knows his team has been playing much better than the first two weeks of the season, but they need to keep playing well against the top teams in the Little Hawkeye and continue that path, win or lose.
“We all know what Norwalk is — one of the better teams in the entire state, so we need to take confidence in there that we are playing good ball, we’re going to keep doing the things we’re supposed to do, and if we’re supposed to win this game, we will,” he says.
Meanwhile, Pella will be looking to wash the taste out of Monday’s tough loss against a high-octane Indianola team with the deepest batting lineup in the league–one that’s hitting .346 against conference foes and has scored 85 runs in those games. Head Coach Jesse Jablonski says despite falling on Monday, they still have a chance to get back to the top of the Little Hawkeye Conference standings and position themselves nicely for the postseason.
“The conference race is definitely not over, by any means, with 12 games to go yet in the conference,” he says. “We’ll see what happens the rest of the week, but we’ve still got our pitching in good shape and everyone’s healthy, so we can still make a run at this thing and put ourselves in good position [for the postseason].”
Varsity action of baseball and softball for the Tulip City summer teams in Warren County begins at 5:30 p.m., with the Dutch in Indianola and Eagles in Norwalk. Hear game two of both baseball games at approximately 7:15 p.m., with P.C. on 92.1 KRLS and Pella on 94.3 KNIA.
