Nine severe thunderstorm warnings impacted Marion and Warren Counties late Friday into Saturday morning, bringing needed rainfall but also large, damaging hail.

The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team was on the air from 10 to 11:45 p.m., and again from midnight to 1 a.m. for the storms bringing large hail to the region. Between 11:05 and 11:30 p.m., several locations between Knoxville and Pella, including Lake Red Rock, received hail from penny sized up to tennis ball sized, causing damage to buildings and cars, especially near White Breast Creek and Whitebreast Beach.

Multiple reports of quarter-sized hail were received in Indianola and Pella as well. Marion County Emergency Management passed along details of a morton building destroyed near the intersection of Highway 92 and Highway 5 south of Pleasantville, and some power lines were knocked down in the same area.

Rainfall totals between 1/4″ to 1″ were common along and mainly south of Highway 92, with some isolated areas receiving up to two inches in southern Marion and Warren Counties.

The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team is on the air for any Severe Thunderstorm or Tornado Warning for any portions of Marion and Warren Counties, with backup generators ensuring the coverage stays on if the power goes out.
