A strong mid-season streak continued for the Pella Christian baseball team as they blew past Woodward-Granger 14-4 Saturday afternoon in a non-conference, six-inning varsity game.
The Eagles opened with four runs in the 1st inning and scored multiple times in four of the six frames played, with nine different players tallying at least one hit in the contest that ended early due to the ten-run mercy rule.
Caleb Belzer was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and five runs batted in, Micah DeHaan was 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, and Bennett Spronk and Kellan Shull each scored three runs. DeHaan also struck out three Hawks in four innings, with two earned runs allowed on the mound to earn his fourth win of the season and third consecutive victory in as many starts.
Pella Christian improves to 7-13 overall, having won six of their last nine games played. The three losses were to conference leader and defending 3A champions Norwalk by just two runs in a doubleheader, and to Class 4A Indianola by three runs on Friday. During that stretch, P.C. has outscored opponents 67 to 26.
The Eagles boys host No. 9 in 3A Grinnell for two games Monday evening, with the softball team also returning to action on Eagle Lane against the Tigers that evening.
