The Knoxville Federated Garden Club will hold a “Sitting Pretty” gardening contest on Saturday, July 10th. Club member Cathy Courtney says this contest is for flowers planted on or in chairs.
“You can plant your favorite flowers or plants, they just have to be alive. Plant them in a container, and you either set them on top of a chair, or sometimes people cut out the seat and the plant sits down inside the chair. So the chair becomes the planter.”
Accessories are permitted, and plants must be identified with a card. Cash prizes will be awarded, with the first place winner receiving $100. Chairs will be judged on the combination of plants, creativity, and overall appearance.
Judging will be held at Brooks Park in Knoxville. Entries will be accepted from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 10th, with judging beginning at 9:30. The contest is free to enter.
