Five Central College student-athletes were awarded Scholar All-American distinction by the Collegiate Triathlon Coaches Association and USA Triathlon. The award is presented to triathletes who have recorded a spring-semester grade point average of 3.50 or higher.

Sophomore Kathleen Pachner led the way with a 4.0 spring GPA and an elementary education major. Also cited were sophomore Lindsey Blommers with a 3.88 GPA while majoring in accounting and computer science; sophomore Jessica Carithers with a 3.90 GPA and an elementary education major; senior Katelyn Mitchell with a 3.58 GPA and an international studies major and Laurynn Mize with a 3.93 GPA while majoring in business management and Spanish. The Dutch compiled a combined team spring semester GPA of 3.51.

Central is among 37 colleges and universities competing in intercollegiate triathlon. The NCAA named triathlon as an Emerging Sport for Women in 2014, a designation that gives the sport a 10-year window to demonstrate sustainability at the NCAA level.

The Dutch launched their program this past year under coach Jennie Hedrick-Rozenberg and competed during the fall and spring with schedules that were modified due to the global pandemic.
