Several severe thunderstorm warnings were issued by the National Weather Service for Warren and Marion Counties Tuesday evening, with hail covering much of the ground in northern Warren County.
The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team was on the air from 6:10 to 7:15pm, initially for a warning covering most of Warren County then as the storm traveled southeast for a separate warning for southeastern Warren and southwest Marion County, with Iowa Emergency Management Departments reporting ping pong ball size hail and 60mph winds.
Listeners reported ground fully covered in hail, and Norwalk, Indianola, Carlisle, Lacona, Milo, Liberty Center, and Melcher-Dallas all received rain and hail throughout the evening.
Six KNIA/KRLS staff members were on the air or assisting coverage during the event. The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team is on the air for any Severe Thunderstorm or Tornado Warning for any portions of Marion and Warren Counties, with backup generators ensuring the coverage stays on if the power goes out.
