Webb Shadle Memorial Library in Pleasantville is holding a rededication ceremony at 7:00 this evening. Director JoEllen Glick says this is to honor the library’s history and to celebrate its future as a public library.
“The Library Friends group found a flyer from June 23rd, 1974, when the library was first dedicated, so they’re trying to replicate that ceremony. The city is taking us over financially on July 1st. This is a way to let the community members acknowledge that the library is changing hands, but nothing is changing. We’re still offering the same books, events. It’s just going to be a different format financially.”
The ceremony begins at 7:00 p.m. and will include guest speakers and refreshments. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
