A scheduled doubleheader for both the Indianola baseball and softball teams were cut short after one game Thursday evening after inclement weather struck the area, however both teams were victorious over Oskaloosa with baseball winning 11-1 in six innings and softball 3-1.
The Indians baseball squad hit six RBI doubles as the bats woke up to dominate the counterpart Indians in Little Hawkeye Conference play. Carter Erickson got the scoring started in the first hitting a triple with Brady Blake driving him in, and added another in the third with an Erickson single and an RBI hit from Jack Strong to lead 2-0. Osky got a run back in the fourth, however the Indians exploded for five runs in the bottom half of the innings with RBI doubles from Kael Kolarik, Blake, and Strong, and a sacrifice fly from Erickson to lead 7-1. Strong, Connor Howard, and Mark Pepper all hit RBI doubles in the bottom of the sixth to get the lead up to 10 runs and ending it an inning early. Pepper was unhittable and efficient on the mound as well, going the full six innings and only throwing 59 pitches to earn the win while giving up only one hit. Indianola improves to 18-7 overall and 10-6 in conference play, and are scheduled to compete in a tournament at Johnston today at 10am weather pending.
The #4 Indians softball squad gave up a leadoff home run against Osky, but would immediately tie the score in the bottom of the inning, and adding another run in each of the fourth and fifth innings to take the lead. Kate Kralik pitched the complete game for the win, striking out six. Head coach Stacy Evans tells KNIA Sports her squad is doing the little things right now, and communicating out in the field which is helping them continue to win.
Indianola improves to 26-3 overall with an 18-game winning streak and a 15-1 conference record. They take today off then play Winterset tomorrow morning at home.
