The Eagles boys and girls of summer split their doubleheaders on the road in Newton Saturday; the Pella Christian softball team won 5-4 in game one and fell 4-3 in game two, while the baseball team lost to the Cardinals 5-4 and defeated them 11-6 Friday.
Pella Christian was keyed by a three-run sixth in game one to take a late lead, while the Eagles could not complete a two-out rally in the 7th after Bailey Roose hit a two-run home run on the team’s final out in the nightcap. The Eagles softball team is at 11-15 overall and 4-13 vs. league opponents, and will play at their home tournament today, starting at 8:30 a.m. vs. PCM and taking on Belle Plaine in the afternoon.
In victory, the Eagles baseball team scored 10 unearned runs with two outs in the 3rd inning of game two. Trevor Veenstra threw 3 2/3 scoreless innings within the 14 innings played, and Kellan Shull finished both games 4-for-7 from the plate for the P.C. baseball team. Pella Christian moves to 8-17 overall and 5-12 against LHC opponents, and are off until a road trip to Oskaloosa Monday.
