The National Weather Service and Marion County Emergency Management completed a survey of storm damage from a tornado that dropped down just west of Pella last weekend on Father’s Day.

The storm was rated as a strong EF-1 tornado on the Enhanced Fujita scale, with estimated peak winds up to 110 miles per hour. According to the survey, the tornado was on the ground for four minutes from 6:40 to 6:44 p.m., starting at 195th Avenue north of Highway 163, tracking east-southeast for approximately 1 1/2 miles, and dissipating near 210th Avenue north of Old Highway 163.

Several outbuildings were damaged and trees were destroyed in the path of the storm. The tornado prompted a warning Sunday evening for the entire city after spotters confirmed a touch down west of the community. The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team was on with live coverage throughout the event.
