PCM summer athletics hit the road Monday as the baseball team fell to West Marshall 5-3 at Principal Park in Des Moines, and the softball team defeated the Trojans 14-0 in State Center.

The PCM baseball team had the game slip away in their loss to the Trojans. West Marshall rallied from a one-run deficit to score three in the bottom sixth before closing out the Mustangs in the seventh. The loss was PCM’s third of the season to West Marshall and dropped them to 5-4 in conference play and 6-10 overall.

The PCM softball team exploded for 14 runs Monday as they put up five runs in the third inning and seven runs in the sixth inning. Riley Johannes led the Mustangs at the plate, going 3-3 with a two-run homer and four RBIs. RaeAnn Duinink added a 2-3 performance with a double and three RBIs. Paige Steenhoek notched her 10th victory of the season in the circle, while also helping her own cause with a 2-3 day at the plate with a double and three RBIs. The win pushes the Mustangs over .500 on the season as they move to 13-12 overall. PCM remains tied with South Hamilton for second place in the Heart of Iowa conference standings at 8-2.

The PCM softball team can be heard tonight on FM 95.3 KNIA as they host Knoxville at 7:30 p.m. With the Mustangs and Panthers facing off in the first round of regionals, Head Coach Shaun Hudnut believes this matchup will help them prepare for the future playoff game. The PCM Baseball team has the night off before hosting Roland-Story for a doubleheader Wednesday.
