The Indianola and Norwalk baseball and softball teams clash tonight at Indianola High School for a pair of doubleheader contests, games which could have major implications in the Little Hawkeye Conference standings.
The Norwalk baseball team currently stands in first place in the conference with a 16-2 record, a full three games above Grinnell and four games above Indianola, with just three conference games remaining including tonight, meaning a win by the Warriors can wrap up the conference championship. Norwalk is coming off of a loss to Dallas Center-Grimes earlier this week, while the Indians will have to try and shake off an earlier season loss to the Warriors where they gave up only three hits but fell 4-1.
The #4 in class 5A Indianola softball team is also in a prime position to claim a Little Hawkeye Conference title, sitting three games above #4 in class 4A Norwalk, with four conference games remaining including the two tonight. The Indians just got past the Warriors in their first matchup of the season earlier this month 2-0 in a game that had just 9 total hits and 13 strikeouts combined. Indians head coach Stacy Evans tells KNIA Sports there are no easy outs in the Little Hawkeye Conference, and games like tonight that have a competitive environment help prepare the squad for postseason play.
Both of the baseball doubleheader can be heard live on the KNIA3 stream on KNIAKRLS.com, with Jon Mohwinkle and Michael Borst on the play-by-play, while both games of the softball contest can be heard live on 94.3 KNIA, with Andrew Swadner on the play-by-play. Pregame coverage for both contests will begin at 5:15pm.
