Birth rates in the United States are the lowest they’ve been since the 1930’s. Following this trend, Marion County’s birth rate dropped 13 percent between 2007 and 2019 as compared to the previous 11-year period. Approximately 6,000 women between the ages of 15 and 44 resided in Marion County in that timespan according to the United States Census Bureau. Nationally, the birth rate for women in their 20’s has fallen by 28 percent since 2007.
Warren County, while still having a positive growth rate of 4% has declined from nine percent between 2007 and 2019.
From 1996 to 2007, birth rates grew fastest in small cities and rural areas and slowest in major metro areas.The birth rate is falling fastest in places with the greatest job growth, where women have more incentive to wait.
