The Indianola softball team took down Pella 14-0 in just five innings Thursday evening, as heard live on 94.3 KNIA.

The Indians struck for three runs in the first inning with RBI singles from Kylee Tucker and Selia Becker, and an RBI double by Macie Mays to take a 3-0 lead that would hold until the fourth inning. The Indians exploded in the fourth for seven runs, taking advantage of four walks in the inning, getting two-RBI singles from Destiny Lewis and Mays, and a three-run home run from Mara Bishop to take a 10-0 lead.

The offense didn’t quit in the fifth for the Indians, scoring four more runs off of hits from Lewis, Mays, Becker, and a ground ball to second by Hanna Graham. Indians head coach Stacy Evans tells KNIA Sports it was patient at-bats that really helped carry the Indians offense.

“We always say be aggressive, but know the difference and where your power is going to be. I thought all the ladies tonight when they got up to bat they thought of that, and they thought of the team concept. I can push runners, I can put myself on, and be ready for the next batter up.”

Pella was led by Ava Curry, Autumn Blink, and Ella Corbin who each got a hit, while Mays led the Indians going 4-4 with four runs batted in, and Mara Bishop went 2-4 with three runs batted in. Pella is now 7-26 on the season and will next match up with Perry on Tuesday for their regular season finale, while the Indians battle it out with some of the state’s best teams today in a tournament at Dallas Center-Grimes, taking on Winterset, Norwalk, and North Polk.
