indianola-3

The #4 in class 5A Indianola softball team swept their way through a tournament at Dallas Center-Grimes with some of the areas best teams Friday, taking down #1 in class 4A Winterset 5-2, #4 in class 4A Norwalk 13-1 in three innings, and #14 in class 4A North Polk 2-0.

The Indians got ahead against Winterset in the first on a Destiny Lewis RBI single, then added a pair of runs in the third on a Macie Mays two-RBI single to take a 3-0 lead. The Huskies got a pair of runs back in the bottom half of the innings, but the Indians added another two in the sixth to secure the win on a Hanna Graham RBI single and a sacrifice fly from Alley May. Kylee Tucker got the win in the circle.

In game two against Norwalk, Indianola wasted no time at all scoring four in the first, another four in the second, and five in the fifth. May hit a leadoff homerun in the first, followed by a Lewis RBI single, a Mays double, and a Selia Becker groundout. Norwalk got a run back in the second, but the Indians answered with a Brynn Ortlund RBI double, a two-RBI single from Tucker, and scored on an error. Indianola then put the game away in the third with RBI hits from Lewis, Mays, Mara Bishop, and taking advantage of another Warrior error. Kate Kralik picked up the win.

Game three was much more of a pitchers duel, with Kralik holding the Comets to just five hits and striking out four to pick up the shutout win. Alley May got the scoring started in the third, then the Indians added another in the sixth on a North Polk error, with Kralik shutting the door in the seventh.

The wins improve the Indians record to 33-4 on the season, and will await their opponent for the first round of postseason play on Saturday, either Dowling Catholic or Des Moines Lincoln.
