It took nine innings to settle the Class 2A Region 4 quarterfinals game hosted at Eagle Lane, as Pella Christian walked off the field winners 4-3 over East Marshall, as heard live on 92.1 KRLS.
Following a two-run first inning, it appeared that the Eagles may run away with the game, but the fundamentally sound Mustangs put pressure on the home team throughout the game, getting 17 baserunners on, only for Alexa Dunsbergen and the P.C. defense to strand 14 of those. Despite taking a 3-2 lead following an Anna Bonnett triple in the 5th, the Eagles did give up the tying run with two outs and two strikes and three straight East Marshall hits in the 7th.
Pella Christian had the key part of their lineup load the bases in extra innings, including the third of three intentional walks to All-State candidate Natalie Harrill, to set up the game winning hit in the 9th on a third try to win for Emma Eekhoff, who capitalized to send the Eagles to the next round.
