indianola-3

The Indianola baseball team finds themselves one game away from the state tournament, and will have to go through a familiar foe to do so in the Dragons of Johnston High School tonight. The Indians dispatched Des Moines Roosevelt 4-3 Monday evening, but now face their biggest challenge of the season taking on #3 Johnston on the road. The Indians and Dragons met up earlier this season in an 11am matchup in late June where Johnston won 14-2, but Indians head coach Jon Fitzpatrick tells KNIA Sports in that first contest they walked or hit 18 batters in that contest, and the Indians are playing their best baseball of the season right now.

“It’s baseball, and it’s high school baseball. I’ve been following the playoffs in general and there’s been some crazy things happening this year especially in 1A. So if we just come out, throw strikes, play our game, make the routine plays, and do our thing offensively, we will give ourselves a chance to be in it.”

The game tonight can be heard live on 94.3 KNIA, with Andrew Swadner and Walt Herron on the play-by-play. Pregame coverage begins at 6:45pm, with first pitch scheduled for 7.
