Special Olympics Iowa is hosting a Fire Truck Pull Fundraiser event tomorrow in Norwalk, inviting teams to compete and pull a fire truck as fast as possible and raise funds for Special Olympics Iowa. SO Iowa Director of Law Enforcement Torch Run Megan Filipi tells KNIA News their annual event pulling planes at the airport had to be canceled this year due to the pandemic, but they found a great alternative and continued on with the idea.
“We have what’s called the Law Enforcement Torch Run, which is a group of law enforcement that meets every month to hold and plan fundraisers to raise money for Special Olympics athletes, and one of them suggested pulling a fire truck instead. They worked with the Norwalk Fire Department to get a fire truck, so we are pulling that this year instead of a plane.”
Filipi also said all the money raised from events such as these goes right back into SO Iowa, including transporting athletes, holding events, and running programs. Teams of ten can participate for $50 a person. The event will take place tomorrow at Michael Foods in Norwalk beginning at 9:45am. Find registration information below.
