Teams of ten will converge on Michael Foods in Norwalk this morning for the Special Olympics Iowa Fire Truck Pull Fundraiser, raising funds for Special Olympics Iowa programs. SO Iowa Director of Law Enforcement Torch Run Megan Filipi tells KNIA News their annual event pulling planes at the airport had to be canceled this year due to the pandemic, but they found a great alternative and continued on with the idea.
“We have what’s called the Law Enforcement Torch Run, which is a group of law enforcement that meets every month to hold and plan fundraisers to raise money for Special Olympics athletes, and one of them suggested pulling a fire truck instead. They worked with the Norwalk Fire Department to get a fire truck, so we are pulling that this year instead of a plane.”
Filipi also said all the money raised from events such as these goes towards transporting athletes, holding events, and running programs. Find more information below.
