The Henry Knox Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will host a dedication ceremony today at 1:00 p.m. on the Marion County Courthouse lawn in Knoxville. A bronze marker will be placed in commemoration of the upcoming 250th anniversary of the American Revolution. Barb Anderson with the organization says this is a nationwide effort, and this will be the first marker of its kind in Iowa.
“We have a nationwide process of promoting the upcoming 250th anniversary of the American Revolution. This will be the first plaque placed in the state of Iowa. The Henry Knox Chapter is named after the first secretary of war, Henry Knox, who was with George Washington during the Revolutionary War, and Knoxville is named after Henry Knox. This dedication ceremony will be on July 25th, which is his birthday.”
The ceremony begins at 1:00 p.m. and is open to the public. It will last under 30 minutes.
