Unemployment rates once again slightly increased locally and statewide, according to county-by-county data released by Iowa Workforce Development this week, representing a two month increase.

In Marion County, 3.5% unemployment was reported in June, which is a step back from 3.1% in May. There are 17,650 individuals working, and 630 receiving benefits and seeking work. One year ago, the rate was 5.8% locally, attributed to closures related to COVID-19. Unemployment was at 2.1% in June of 2019.

In Warren County, 4% unemployment was reported in June, which is slightly worse than the 3.6% rate from May. The number of employed residents is at 27,200 and 1,200 individuals are considered unemployed but seeking work. One year ago, the rate was 6.3% locally, attributed to closures related to COVID-19. Unemployment was at 2.6% in June of 2019.

Iowa’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was at 4% last month, slightly increased from 3.9% in May. Iowa Workforce Development attributes the increase due to more Iowans seeking work. The state’s jobless rate was 7.1% one year ago and 2.7% in 2019.
