The first in a loaded Top 10 countdown of moments from 2020-21 at Pella High School takes us to the buzzer on January 19th in the signature win of an up-and-down girls basketball season.
The Lady Dutch finally found a signature victory with a 48-46 thriller with No. 2 in 3A Des Moines Christian. It was nearly a wire-to-wire lead for the Lady Dutch after overcoming an early first quarter deficit en route to a 19-9 first quarter. But the road team Lions chipped away at the advantage over the course of the next two frames, and took advantage of eight Pella turnovers to get a late lead by two in the 4th. However, Madison Naig tied it with 1:45 at 46-all shortly following a Lions throwaway.
A critical juncture came with 30 seconds remaining, after a DMC miss was rebounded by the Lions, and what looked to be an easy putback was denied by Kylie Tauke, whose blocked shot was rebounded by the Lady Dutch with 17 seconds left.
With five seconds left, Faith Diers found an opening in the center of the lane, and poured in a runner for the winning basket, giving Pella a win over a ranked opponent for the first time in the winter.
