Continuing this school year’s top ten moments for Melcher-Dallas, the next moment takes a look at an event that caused a lot of adjustment to the Saints’ sports program as a whole.

During the winter sports season, Melcher-Dallas’ high school gym was deemed unplayable and unsafe to be in. With the basketball season still going on, both of the Saints’ basketball squads had to play the rest of their games on the road or at neutral sites. Both teams were coming after finishing in the top four in the Bluegrass Conference tournament.

To make things even more difficult, the Saints’ girls had four starters sit out for the final two weeks of the regular season due to COVID-19 contact tracing. The Saints’ girls finished the season with an 8-11 record and lost in the first round of the playoffs to Martensdale-St. Mary’s.

As for the Saints’ boys, they embraced playing the spoiler role on the road, rolling off five straight conference wins, including putting up a season-high 86 points at Moulton-Udell. Melcher-Dallas also knocked off Tri-County, Diagonal, Orient-Macksburg, and Wayne. The Saints finished with a 9-11 record, losing in the first round of the playoffs to North Mahaska.
