The #8 sports story of the school year at Norwalk was a monumental upset on the road by the girls basketball team. On January 23rd, the Warriors made the short road trip to #14 in Class 5A Indianola, and came back for a 50-44 win. The Warrior girls found themselves up by two after the first quarter, but Indianola made their move and was in control 20-15 at halftime. The Indians remained in control for much of the way, and even extended the lead to as high as 12 points in the fourth quarter. But a 12-1 Norwalk run made it a tight game once again, and freshman Ava Johnson made several clutch baskets in the paint to put the game away. Johnson says it was a huge momentum shift for the team.

It was the first conference and first home loss for Indianola. It snapped a 12-game losing streak in the series for Norwalk, and was the program’s first win over Indianola since the Indians joined the Little Hawkeye Conference.
