The countdown of the top ten stories of the 2020-21 school year takes us to the gridiron for Pleasantville’s highest-scoring quarter of their football season.
On September 4, 2020, Pleasantville travelled to Lynnville-Sully for their second game of the season, coming off a win at Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont the week before. It was a defensive first half as the Hawks led the Trojans 8-7 going into the break. When the third quarter started, Pleasantville flipped the script right away as Jake DeJoode ran 61 yards for a touchdown on the first play of the quarter. One minute later, Colby Sandholdt took a Conner Maston throw back for a touchdown. On the ensuing kickoff, DeJoode recovered a Hawks fumble and took it in for Pleasantville’s third touchdown of the quarter and his third of the game.
Caylor Clark got in on the action with a 14-yard touchdown run. Shortly after he scored, Sandholdt got another pick-six off Maston, capping a 42-point third quarter for the Trojans. Pleasantville finished the night with a 56-29 romp of Lynnville-Sully. Pleasantville rushed for 364 yards, including 216 yards from DeJoode. Isaac Mann also ran for over 100 yards and a score in the win. The Trojans defense forced seven turnovers, which was a season-high.
Pleasantville improved their record to 2-0 on the season, and finished the year with a 5-3 record overall in 2020.
