Counting down the top ten stories from Melcher-Dallas for the 2021 school year continues on the hardwood as there was an historic achievement that took place for the boys’ basketball squad.
In the Saints’ final game of the regular season, they travelled to Sigourney for a non-conference matchup. One of Melcher-Dallas’ top scorers in 2020-21 was senior Ryan Krpan, who led the team scoring that season at just over 17 points per game. In the second quarter of their game, Krpan got an easy layup to tie the game. What was significant about the layup was that Krpan eclipsed 1,000 points in his career.
Krpan, who was a starter for three years, was the first Saint to eclipse 1,000 points since 2016 when Chase Wetterling broke the mark. Krpan would finish his career with 1,019 total points during his illustrious career at Melcher-Dallas. Krpan also was the third Saint under Jim Wells to eclipse the historic mark. The other two were Wetterling and BJ Wells.
Melcher-Dallas unfortunately lost to Sigourney 59-55, but Krpan’s achievement will forever be in the record books at his alma mater.
