No. 7 on the countdown of top sports stories from Pella High School was a series of overtime kicks that sent the Dutch boys to the final eight in the postseason. Two years after falling in penalty kicks with a trip to state on the line, the No. 4 ranked Pella boys soccer team dominated the tiebreaker after 100 minutes of scoreless competition against No. 9 Fort Madison on May 26th.

The Dutch outkicked the Bloodhounds 3-0 to settle the score and earn the school’s 6th ever appearance at the state tournament. Goalkeeper Mason Holland kept the net clean all night, and fellow defender Will Rasmussen put the exclamation point on his PK try, sending the rest of his team to the Cownie Sports Complex.

Pella finished the boys soccer season after falling to ADM in a regular season rematch at the state tournament the following week at the Cownie Sports Complex.
