pleasantville-3

Continuing the countdown of the top ten stories of the 2020-21 school year for Pleasantville goes to the baseball diamond for the biggest upset of the regular season.

On June 7, the Trojans took a trip to West Central Conference rival Des Moines Christian. The Lions came into the game 10-0 and No. 2 in Class 2A while Pleasantville came in 4-6. The game started off with Des Moines Christian leading 4-1 after three innings. After three-plus innings, Austin McMillin took over Jake DeJoode on the mound. DeJoode gave up five runs on six hits and walked four batters. McMillin pitched five no-hit innings in relief of DeJoode.

After trailing by three, Aaron Wilkins got three hits and scored a run in the fourth and fifth innings to help tie the game up. Dale Jolly reached base three times, including twice by hit by pitch. Jolly also batted in three runs. Parker Sheets went two for two with a double and a run scored in the victory.

Pleasantville would later upset Des Moines Christian again in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs, part of their run to the substate final.
