Mild conditions this week will give way to heat by this weekend through the time school starts. State Climatologist Justin Glisan says current global conditions are ENSO-neutral heading into the fall, but have been in La Nina in the tropical Pacific Ocean. He says those determine general patterns across the Midwest, and this month, means warmer than average conditions, which may continue this fall. Precipitation will be harder to gauge, according to Glisan, which may not be good news for the long-term drought formed in the Dakotas, Minnesota, and northern half of Iowa.
