The Knoxville City Council met in regular session Monday. They presented lifesaving awards to first responders at a medical emergency in the stands at Knoxville Raceway. They approved the application of Weiler to the Iowa Economic Development Authority High Quality Jobs Program.

The council held a discussion and received a presentation from residents regarding the owning of potbelly pigs in the city. These animals are considered to be livestock in Iowa Code, and thus are not allowed in the city. However, council members expressed interest in brainstorming and revisiting the issue.

They approved the purchase of portable radios for the fire department, approved Heather Ussery’s contract as City Manager, and approved the resignation of Council Member Justin Plum, effective September 7th. His seat will be on the November election ballot to fill the vacancy.

The next Knoxville City Council meeting will be August 16th at 6:15 p.m.
