The Pella City Council discussed a brief update regarding converting remaining gravel roads in Pella into hard surface streets. Assistant City Administrator Corey Goodenow says with increased traffic near the new Pella Fiber telecommunications building on South Prairie Street, travel to St. Mary’s Catholic Church on 218th Place, and concerns on Monroe Street, council is aiming to potentially prioritize some of those conversions in upcoming budgets. To convert all three streets, the cost could be up to approximately $3.6 million, with just under $1 million for South Prairie, $2.4 million for 218th Place, and $250,000 for Monroe Street. No formal action was taken about any of those potential conversions, and future planning sessions will be held later this fall and winter.
