92-closure

Replacement of the Iowa 92 bridge over Muchakinock Creek about 1 mile west of Oskaloosa will require closing the road to traffic beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, Aug. 16, until mid-September, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Chariton construction office.

The Muchakinock Creek project involves removing the existing continuous concrete slab bridge and replacing it with a continuous welded girder bridge by using accelerated bridge construction methods. The project also involves raising the grade.

Motorists will be directed to use an official off-site detour. The 22-mile marked detour will follow Marion County Road T-17 and Iowa 163. It is anticipated the detour will be in place for 20 days, weather permitting. Local traffic will have access to Iowa 92 except the lanes crossing the bridge over Muchakinock Creek near the Iowa 92 mile marker 178.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
