Candidates can soon begin filing paperwork to participate in several elections in Pella, Marion County, and the state of Iowa.
The following Pella City Council seats are up for election on November 2nd:
Ward 1 – currently held by Lynn Branderhorst
Ward 3 – currently held by Bruce Schiebout
At-Large – currently held by Mark DeJong
In 2018, the Iowa Legislature approved combining school and city elections, especially after low turnout impacted school board votes across the state. The following Pella School board seats are up for election on November 2nd:
At Large: Elisa Klahsen
District 1: Annette Smith
District 2: Joan Corbin
All candidates for city and school elections must file an affidavit of candidacy and nomination petitions between Monday, August 23rd and Thursday, September 16th to be included on the November 2nd ballot. Additionally, the Pella Community School District is in the process of collecting signatures from any property tax payer in the district borders to place a bond issue on the ballot for $40 million in improvements.
