The Indianola Fire Department has announced the hiring of Firefighter Jill Burrell, the first full-time career female firefighter/paramedic. The Indianola Fire Department stated Firefighter Burrell has been with the department in a part-time role since August of 2019, and has gone above and beyond regular duties to cover shifts due to illness or leave, and has set an example in her commitment and dedication to protecting the citizens of Indianola. The Indianola Fire Department has hired multiple full time firefighter/paramedics in the past several years, after a staffing study indicated the department was understaffed.
