The Pella City Council will consider revising the 2019 Community Facility Needs Assessment during Policy and Planning following regular business at Tuesday’s regular meeting.

A discussion will be held to review the key points of the outline developed by Short Elliott Hendrickson, Inc., that then highlighted potential construction and renovation projects involving city-owned facilities.

However, the assessment developed two years ago did not formalize any timelines or financing options for several of those needs addressed, most notably for the Pella Community Center, Pella Library, or Public Safety Complex.

During policy and planning Tuesday, council will review these potential updates to the city’s facility plan:
• Inclusion of an indoor recreation center.
• Analysis of updating the current community center versus building a new community center, including potential locations for a new community center. The update would also an auditorium, which was not included in the original 2019 draft.
• Formulation of a timeframe for the improvements in the facility plan.
• Analysis of the financial impact for each proposed facility upgrade.
• Conduct separate interviews with the Mayor and Council on facility plan priorities.
• Conduct focus group meetings with key stakeholders for the community center and proposed indoor recreation center.

The Pella City Council meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Pella Public Safety Complex, and the session can be viewed online here: https://join.me/CityofPella
