The Indianola City Council approved a graffiti policy for the Indianola Skatepark earlier this month, allowing graffiti artwork to be placed on the vertical walls at the park by individuals and organizations. Parks and Rec Director Doug Bylund tells KNIA News the idea came from other communities who have tried it and seen success, and it will fit in with the theme of more murals going up downtown and the growth of arts in the area.

“We’ve seen this in other communities, bigger cities all over the country have graffiti areas. So we thought this might be a good, natural place for us to try here and see if we can give something for people to be proud of. We’ve already had interest from the Indianola High School Art Club that they might come out and do something once school starts later this fall.”

Bylund also said they are still working on the final details of the new policy, so if anyone has interest in art at the skatepark, to contact Indianola Parks and Rec.
