The Pella City Council is working to sort out facilities needs in the near future, and at a policy and planning session during the regular meeting Tuesday, aimed to find direction moving forward so projects aren’t stalled again.

City Administrator Mike Nardini says the key topic continues to be the future of the Pella Community Center, and how to enhance both recreation and arts needs throughout the city.

Nardini says regardless if the current Pella Community Center is preserved or new facilities are built, it appears the desire of elected officials is to move forward with separate facilities for those uses, as the current building on Union Street is not able to handle both.

The next step for staff is determining a fiscal plan and rough timeline to accomplish those goals, as well as potential upgrades to the Pella Public Library, City Hall, and Public Safety Complex, according to Nardini.
