The Pella Christian football team will get their first taste of competition this evening in a scrimmage at home vs. Newton.

Eagles Head Coach Rich Kacmarynski says with the regular season shortened by one game in the new format determined by the Iowa High School Athletic Association, tonight’s exhibition may have extra importance, especially with the district standings only determining postseason qualifiers and seeding in Class 1A.

“Maybe it puts a little more emphasis on coming out of the gate a little bit faster, with only 8 games. We’re gonna scrimmage Newton, and I’m almost tempted, we traditionally have treated that like a game, like a dress rehearsal. But I’m almost thinking that it should be a game, because we lost that last regular season game. So, I think maybe a little more emphasis on the scrimmage and coming out of the gate a little bit faster than normal, but other than that our goal is to win the district and put ourselves in a position to host a playoff game.”

The Eagles football team is in need of Gatorade and water to hydrate the team during the season.  All fans who come to the scrimmage this evening are asked to bring a pack of Gatorade, water, or a $5 donation. In return, Eagles fans will receive a raffle ticket that could win them a season pass to the home football games this fall.

Activities begin at 5:30 this evening for the football scrimmage vs. Newton on Eagle Lane.
