More than 100 local students will go back to school toting new supplies from an event held Tuesday at Helping Hands food pantry. The second annual School Supplies Sharing drew nearly 50 families from five local school districts. The event is a partnership between Helping Hands and Riverside Community Church. Pastor Bruce Rietveld of Riverside tells KNIA/KRLS News he was overwhelmed by the amount of donations delivered to his church.

In addition to backpacks and traditional school supplies, families received tissues, hand sanitizer, toothpaste and new back-to-school clothes. Leftover items were delivered Thursday to the Knoxville Community School District.
