The Knoxville First United Methodist Church is beginning a meal program called Cooking For a Cause. Church Treasurer Deb Greiner tells KNIA/KRLS News this is a program to help families who may be financially stretched with a free meal per month. She says the church is bringing the program back and extending it beyond their congregation.
“With everything that’s happening in the community, we want to expand that mission to offering a free meal to anyone in the community that’s hungry. We decided to open that up and have a free meal once a month. I hope that lots of people show up for fellowship and a good home cooked meal.”
These meals will be served the last Wednesday of each month at the church from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. and begins August 25th. This month’s meal will be roast turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, and sweet corn. Produce grown by members of the congregation will also be served. The church is also seeking donations, which can be mailed or dropped off at the Knoxville First United Methodist Church.
