Habitat for Humanity of Marion County has had their first ever homeowner pay off their entire mortgage. Juanita South was awarded a home and moved in in 2002. Although some of the homeowners have sold their homes, South is the first recipient to complete their payments. Executive Director Robin Pfalzgraf tells KNIA/KRLS News that South is the perfect example of why Habitat for Humanity does what they do.
South is a Mexico native, and moved to the United States at age 11. She raised her sons in Knoxville, who have since moved out. South’s mother recently moved from Mexico and also lives in the house. South also frequently opens her home to host visitors during the Knoxville Nationals.
