A Knoxville man who allegedly committed sexual abuse is pleading not guilty to the charges. 29-year-old Sam Shafer of Knoxville is accused of sexually assaulting an acquaintance in the morning hours of March 5th at a residence in the 1600 block of East Robinson Street. DNA evidence has linked him as the suspect in this crime.

After posting a surety bond, Shafer entered the not guilty plea and waived his right to a speedy trial. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 2nd, and the pretrial conference is scheduled for September 23rd.
