Rosie DeBruin, a Jasper County 4-H alum, was honored as a 4-H Alum of the Day by the Iowa 4-H Foundation on August 17 in the 4-H Exhibits Building at the Iowa State Fair.

The Iowa 4-H Alum of the Day is a recognition event that seeks to thank 4-H alumni for their service in spreading the word of 4-H and living out the values of the 4-H program. Ten deserving individuals were recognized each of the first ten days of the 2021 Iowa State Fair. The individuals honored exemplify the 4-H spirit, contribute to their local community, and continue to support the 4-H program.

4-H has been a part of Rosie DeBruin’s life for nearly three decades. As a 4-H’er she showed dairy cattle at the Jasper County Fair, and her involvement has continued ever since. After Rosie was married, she became a club leader for the Dutch Darlings in Marion County. She was a leader for the club for a few years until she started to have a family of her own. In 1989, Rosie became a leader for the Prairie Pride Club in Marion County, a role she held for twenty-six years, which included the time her three children were involved in 4-H. Rosie’s grandchildren are now members of the Prairie Pride 4-H Club as well.

Rosie works in customer service at Leighton State Bank in Pella, and this role has allowed her to continue serving her community. One activity that she never misses the chance to help with is serving the Marion County Bankers Association Appreciation Dinner for all 4-H and FFA members and their families at the county fair. Rosie passed on her love of 4-H to the next two generations of her family. Her children are still involved with 4-H as they dedicate time volunteering, and she has four grandchildren who are current 4-H’ers.
