Simpson College student Blaine Schumacher died by apparent suicide on the Simpson College campus Sunday evening. Schumacher was a senior majoring in neuroscience and a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, and a graduate of Mount Vernon High School.

Simpson College President Marsha Kelliher said in a statement:

“We are devastated to learn of the death of one of our own. During this difficult time, our priority is to care for each other. Our thoughts and prayers are with Blaine’s family, loved ones and the entire Simpson College community.”

Resources were made immediately available Sunday night to those campus communities directly connected to Schumacher. The College’s religious life community and counseling services office have since been made available to the entire campus community.
