A clash of two ranked teams will open the Little Hawkeye Conference volleyball season at Pella High School this evening. No. 9 in 4A Pella welcomes No. 10 in 4A Indianola to begin what is shaping up to be a highly competitive campaign for the top spot in one of the state’s premiere leagues.

Pella and Indianola are one of seven Class 4A schools this fall in the Little Hawkeye, with Pella Christian the lone 2A competitor to round out the field. Four conference schools are in the preseason rankings, including No. 5 Oskaloosa and No. 15 Norwalk.

The Dutch are 6-1 after the Bondurant-Farrar tournament and an opening night win over Ballard, while Indianola sits at 5-4 overall after a 4-2 day at the Harlan Tournament this past weekend and a 1-3 day at the Southeast Polk opening quad. The Indians lead the all-time series with Pella 6-4 in the Varsity Bound era, but the girls in green and white have taken the last two matches in close fashion, both coming last fall 3-2 in the regular season and 2-1 in the conference tournament.

First serve of Pella vs. Indianola volleyball begins at 7:15 p.m. Those who can’t make it to game can watch the action on the Pella Dutch Live YouTube Channel.
