A clash between ranked teams went the way of Indianola, as the No. 10 team in 4A toppled No. 9 in 4A Pella 3-1 (23-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-19) Tuesday in the Little Hawkeye Conference opener at Pella High School.
Pella opened the first set strong, as the Dutch pulled away late, but several hitting and serving errors allowed Indianola to find strong finishes to the final three sets.
Dutch Head Coach Mallory Peterson says too many mental miscues allowed a talented Indians team to take full advantage of those opportunities, and put Pella behind early in the highly competitive chase for the top spot in the conference.
Pella tallied 20 kills from Bailey Van Voorst, and 10 more with three solo blocks from Jasmine Namminga. Pella falls to 6-2 overall and 0-1 in the league, and are off until a return home Tuesday, September 7th vs. No. 15 in 4A Norwalk.
