Indianola Firefighter Jill Burrell was hired as the first full-time female firefighter/paramedic in the department in August, after working for several years in a part-time capacity. Burrell tells KNIA News she was inspired to become an EMT/Firefighter because she wants to help people.

“I personally like the medical side because that’s what I wanted to do in the beginning, be an EMT paramedic, then I fell in love with firefighting. You are one-on-one with the person, and sometimes you get to see what you did to help them, whereas in firefighting you are all working together. I want to help people. Literally that’s what I want to do all day every day, just care for people and help people.”
