The Mustangs’ volleyball squad dropped to the reigning Heart of Iowa Conference Champions Roland-Story in straight sets, 3-0. PCM lost 12-25, 19-25, and 21-25 in their sets. Sidney Shaver had a big as she tallied 12 of PCM’s 15 assists. Riley Johannes had seven kills in the loss. Claire Wilson and Chelsea Bird each had three kills. Bird and Wilson combined to have 15 of the Mustangs’ 26 digs.

PCM will be back in action Saturday for a weekend tournament at BCLUW. The Mustangs’ first two matches will be against North Polk and South Tama.

The Class 2A #3 ranked Mustangs hit the road for the first time this season as they match up against Newton. PCM defeated Davis County 30-14 last week, despite missing a couple key offensive skill players. Newton comes into the game 1-0 after defeating Knoxville 41-0.

The turnover battle will be a big factor in the game as both teams come into the matchup having forced three plus turnovers in the opening week of the season. Head Coach Greg Bonnett, knows that for his team to be successful against Newton, they need to win that battle.

“It always goes back to the same thing, and it’s that we have to possess the ball. We’ve got to cause turnovers, force turnovers, and keep the ball when we have it. We’ve been watching the Newton film and we know what those guys do. We feel like we know their attacks and if we can get after them up front and be physical up front and match their physicality and beat them to the second hit. I think that will be a key is the offensive and defensive line play.”

You can listen to the PCM game at Newton on the KRLS3 Stream with pregame coverage starting at 6:30 pm, followed by kickoff at 7:30 pm.
